3 Techniques To Use Sanguine Chalk In Drawing Classes

Blending is the best technique to create impressive artwork with sanguine chalk. Within blending, the 3 main types of techniques include blending with fingers, blending with paper towels, and blending with a brush, all of which are taught in portraiture drawing classes

In this blog, VR School of Art, one of the best drawing classes for kids and oil painting classes in North York, Ontario, explores these 3 methods in detail.

What Are The Best Blending Techniques Using Sanguine Chalk?

Blending With Fingers

Blending the chalk with fingers is perhaps the most popular method out of the three. This is because it creates an even finish. This is mainly attributed to the oils present in the skin, which help to blend and dissipate the chalk effectively, creating an aesthetic effect. The only main challenge with this method is knowing the right amount of pressure to apply, as too much pressure can ruin the entire effect. Furthermore, using fingers can create some material deposit, so be sure to blow on the drawing regularly.

Blending With Paper Towels

The next alternative to blending fingers is to use a paper towel. It is a bit less challenging than using your fingers. However, there is also a downside. The blending will not be as thorough when compared with using fingers.

Blending With A Brush

Lastly, you can also consider blurring or blending with a brush. This creates a more diffuse effect than the other two methods. This is because the pigment is spread out more evenly with a brush. Finally, with all three techniques, make sure to use a circular motion for the best results.

Conclusion

In summary, blending is the best method when drawing with sanguine chalk. Follow any of the three techniques mentioned above based on your level of expertise and the desired effect.
